Understanding the Costs of IVF and Fertility Treatment
For many couples, the cost of infertility treatment and associated medications can be extremely high—especially when it involves multiple cycles to get pregnant. Those without insurance coverage for infertility care often decide whether to seek treatment based on their ability to pay.
Fertility Treatment Cost Factors
When considering fertility care, cost is often top of mind and understandably so. The total cost of treatment can vary widely depending on your unique medical needs, the recommended protocols, and whether you require advanced procedures or multiple cycles.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is one of the most effective fertility treatments, but also one of the most complex and costly. IVF pricing can vary based on whether you’re doing a fresh or frozen embryo transfer, if you’re using donor eggs or sperm, and how many cycles are needed. Costs may also vary based on your clinic’s protocols, lab capabilities, and whether add-on procedures such as ICSI or PGT are included in your treatment.
Egg freezing (also known as oocyte cryopreservation) is a proactive fertility preservation option, and its cost structure differs from IVF. Expenses typically include ovarian stimulation, monitoring appointments, the egg retrieval procedure, and cryopreservation. Storage fees are usually billed separately and may be charged annually. Some patients also factor in the future cost of using those eggs in an IVF cycle. Costs may also vary depending on whether egg freezing is being pursued for medical reasons, such as before cancer treatment (i.e., oncofertility), or for elective fertility preservation.
Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is an add-on service often used during IVF to screen embryos for genetic conditions or chromosomal abnormalities. This service typically incurs an additional fee and varies depending on the number of embryos tested and the type of genetic screening being performed (e.g., PGT-A, PGT-M, PGT-SR).
A frozen embryo transfer (FET) is a follow-up procedure after embryos have been cryopreserved. While generally less expensive than a full IVF cycle, FETs still involve monitoring, medications, and a transfer procedure. Costs can depend on whether the embryos were created in a previous cycle and whether additional testing or preparation is needed.
Medications can represent a significant portion of your fertility expenses, particularly in IVF or egg freezing cycles. The type, dosage, and duration of medications required vary from person to person, resulting in a wide range of costs. Some medications may be covered by insurance, while others are not.

Fertility Treatment Discounts at KFI

Hardship Discount: KFI is happy to extend a discounted rate for IVF treatment for patients with a joint annual income of less than $50,000 or individual annual income of less than $30,000. Cannot be combined with other discounts.
